“Chabot Golf Club” was a name I picked out of the air, based on our long history to the area, and Lake Chabot Golf Course in particular, but if folks like/prefer another name, it’s certainly open for discussion. Club members in good standing (rules determining what “good standing” means are TBD) are free to submit their club name preferences for a vote.
Chabot in History
Anthony Chabot (1813-1888) known as the Water King, owned the company that built the San Leandro Creek Dam, creating Lake Chabot in 1870. Earlier, he built San Francisco’s first public water system, and built water systems for other cities including Vallejo, San Jose, Portland MN, and Milwaukee WI. He used his wealth to great philanthropic causes including housing for veterans in Yountville. Whether Mr. Chabot played golf isn’t mentioned on Wikipedia.
Yo Jason – In ’82 when Jake, you, and I first became pals, our small coterie of disc-golf playing friends adopted the loose moniker of the Nor-Cal / Chabot Disc Golf Club. That’s what’s emblazoned on all of my many trophies from those days. And, yes, OK, it’s possible that Jake & you have more trophies than I ever could claim. My vote is to stick with Chabot Golf Club; it’s simple and it boasts a 35 year history & local pedigree. Thanks, Rob.
Thanks Rob for the data point. It is with fond memories I recall the disc golf days of yore. The sound the disc made when it hit the chains was music to the ears. Switching to “Ball Golf” was inevitable given our love of competition and the natural expansion of the group that required more traditional pursuits. Good times, and yes the name is close to your original moniker. Vote noted, and others are invited.
I miss the disc golf. I was always much better at that than the ball golf. 🙂
